👨💼 About Me
My name is Andrew Quinn. I'm a technology strategist and IT consultant. I've been working in IT for longer than I'd care to admit, starting with repairing computers while I was still in school and now helping large enterprises to define and deliver their technology strategy. I am passionate about technology and the opportunities it presents.
🎬 About The Channel
Keeping up with technology can be a challenge for IT pros, and many who have inherited the responsibility of a technology decision-maker don't have the time or the background to research everything they need to make informed decisions. I started this channel to provide answers to common questions brought to me in the field. I also sprinkle in some content that I think is interesting or fun, so you don't have to be a hardened sysadmin or stressed-out IT manager to find something useful here. Hi I am stuck on blue screen Stop code then it switches to automatic repair i cant boot to windows this video was not helpful unfortunately 😳😕😣
what does bro have a wrench for
Plan A: It's a visual metaphor for fixing something. Plan B: If all else fails, smack it with a wrench. It won't fix the computer but it might make you feel better.
I'm not a developer nor a network engineer, come from the business side, and this was clear as crystal. Great explanation. Also, I came here for explanation on hyperconverged, and low and behold, you also do converged! 👏👏👏
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
*Update:* The 5-mailbox limit on the community edition applies to user mailboxes (people and service accounts), but not shared/equipment mailboxes. Grommunio has updated their website to reflect this. Grommunio has also clarified that the "Gromox" component does not derive from Kopano, although other components of Grommunio do. While there are claims made to the contrary, the primary source referenced by the majority of these claims has since been deleted by the author, so I am inclined to believe Grommunio's account.
F*k Microsoft they know we have not changed our CPUs over a year My CPU is Intel core i7 4790k And still working just fine Do you know why i don't wanna change a CPU?? Because it's a pain in a ass you Gotta buy a fuckin mother board and find a damn CPU to fit the Socket/ buy a new ram Which they costs arm and leg The CPU i had in mind was Ryan 5 5600x but the mother boards costs over a fuckin 200$/ 400$ For AMD CPU to fit with mother board
I hadn't heard of this one yet. Thanks for sharing. Definitely one to watch. Completely agree, they need to build the community to help it grow into a polished and trusted product. Then it will be that community that takes it into business as a trusted solution. I've been an exchange engineer for years too (since exchange 2000), I have been looking for something like this for years. MS have had no competition and it really shows these days. Thanks for the really well explained video.
Thanks! I hope this one gains traction because it has a lot of promise if they keep heading in the direction they've been going, and some of the places they don't directly follow Exchange Server (like using OIDC for SSO rather than WS-Fed, or porting Graph to on-prem) are an improvement on it.
@@ProTechShow I will definitely spin this up in my lab and give it a go. The 5 mailbox limit made me think it wasn't worth trying but very pleased that can be worked around! This sort of thing has to be run for a while in the real world to see if it's got legs. And your right, 5 doesn't give you enough to put it into use in a "non critical" use case. I really don't understand their thinking here. They need to get the IT pros using it for personal use, then we are the people that will take it into production and that's where it will be licenced for full support. Let's hope they see this soon as they have potential for such a great product here. They have done the hard work building on all the great exchange protocols.
Of all the things Gromox is, it's not a fork of Kopano sw. If anything, grommunio-web and grommunio-sync are. "5 mailboxes" is an oversight; the software actually checks for 5 users (active ones at that).
By "oversight", do you mean it was a bug? If this was not intentional I will re-test and pin a comment to that effect. On the Kopano/Gromox front the relationship between the different components seems to be somewhat obscured by time, name changes, and deleted articles, so I will take your word for it. I found multiple sources referring to Grommunio (at the time "grammm") as a fork of Kopano, and several references to Kopano making an accusation about stolen (proprietary) code by Grommunio/grammm. Most of the latter then linked to a statement by Grommunio refuting the accusation and stating that only free code was forked. The rebuttal by Grommunio largely concentrated on the number of changes to the Gromox component since a fork took place. As Grommunio chose to concentrate on Gromox in the rebuttal I believed this to be the component under contention; but articles provided for context by various sources have now been deleted along with the original accusation, so I can accept that some nuance has been lost to me.
@@ProTechShow It was not a "bug", the oversight was more of an editorial error. The pricing site has now been updated.
@@michaellangfermann5299 Yes, I can see the pricing page has been updated. I seem to recall having to get rid of a couple of shared mailboxes I used as personal archives because they pushed it over the limit, but I will check again and pin an update.
Confirmed and pinned a comment. Let me also take the opportunity to say thanks to you both and the rest of the team at Grommunio for the work you've put into this. I hope to see the project continue to grow and be a success.
tnx for your video i like it very much this is a helpful video i can help you visit thats website #softwarelegit
exchange would be much better if it didn't rely on the terrible client outlook is also Android doesn't support it for some reason, you need a third party app to access more than mail (like the another awful outlook)
I've been using Android with multiple Exchange accounts for years without any issues. I'm just using the default native app (currently on Samsung), not Outlook.
@@ProTechShow Samsung ships with exchange support, I think Sony did too, but that's not an integral part of Android neither Exchange nor Outlook accounts work in the generic case, specific ones may obviously you can handle emails using IMAP, but that's it also there are other apps that handle these, some made only for sync relying on the OS to expose data to other apps, but in my experience these were pretty unreliable
@@Z4KIUS Every non-Samsung Android device I've seen in years comes with the Gmail app as standard, which supports Exchange out-of-the-box
@@ProTechShow Gmail isn't a system provider but a 3p app and it doesn't seem to handle anything except mail, at least for personal accounts, even though they use the same protocol
@@Z4KIUS I just added an account to the app and it asked if I wanted to sync email, contacts, calendar, and tasks. Looks like the calendar opens in the Google Calendar app rather than Gmail itself, but it's all linked. I've honestly never come across a case of an Android phone not supporting ActiveSync out of the box, and we're talking tens of thousands of users - many doing BYoD. I'm sure if you get a raw de-Googlified Android image it could be a thing, but in terms of devices people actually use in the real world it's got to be pretty niche.
Well explained. Thank you.
Thanks!
Never heard of this! Will be taking a look for sure!
It's definitely a step up from the usual approach of slapping a web UI on top of Postfix + Dovecot and calling it done. There are some gaps, but being able to swap out the backend and keep the same familiar apps on the frontend makes it a lot more viable for me.
Nice video. I'll definitely check this out. Been running exchange at home for my small business for 21 years and was planning to move to the cloud in October next year when support for Exchange 2016 ends. This project might keep it in the homelab.
Worth a look indeed, and if you're on a budget it requires significantly fewer resources than a full Exchange server. My lab was starting to stretch at the seams and replacing Exchange with this gave me some space back to play with.
+1
Hey you probably won’t see this, but I’m having issues I’ve been getting blue screen all day, it’s loads then crashes then sometimes it doesn’t even let me load and sometimes it takes abit to crash but this was in the span of today, I’ve had it happen to me a abit starting from like a month ago. When it crashes it shows different file names
Nothing works i didnt use my pc for 3 days and now everything i try to do just blue screens
rather than throwing everything into 1 basket, would be advice to use different app for OTP and bitwarden for password and passkey
I installed a game and uninstalled one at the same time and I went bye bye
What if I have a home office?
anyone have a fix for the 0x00000050 error?
i don't but I hear that 0x00000050 is one of the hardest bsod to fix so good luck with that
I'm not going to try and crack bitlocker dude... Your data is lost
This video is not about cracking BitLocker. It shows several legitimate methods to find your recovery key. In most cases there is no need to lose data just because you see a BitLocker screen. You should probably watch the video before commenting...
7:43 when i use the manage-bde -protectors -get c: command Under the numerical password it is only showing the ID no password so does that is no recovery key?
The manage-bde command is a preventative measure to make sure you have a copy of your key before you get locked out. If you're already locked out of your drive it won't work and you will need to use one of the other methods in the video to find your key. If your drive is unlocked and you still don't see a password then it's possible your drive was encrypted without creating a recovery key. You ought to be able to create one of your own with "manage-bde -protectors -add C: -rp", replacing C with the appropriate drive letter.
Thank you. I found it 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Glad to hear it!
Good explanation.
Thanks!
THANK YOU
You're welcome!
Thank you your video helped a ton and my pc is now up and running. 😀
Glad it helped
Exactly the thing that I wanted!!
Glad it was helpful, although it's worth noting that "CentOS Stream" is not the same thing as "CentOS Linux", which was originally just "CentOS" as referred to in this video. There have been a few changes since this video was published - check the pinned comment for a few updates.
lol... most of these videos make suggestions that involve actually being able to get in to windows to sniff out the problem. Save yourself the time and bother.... DO A FRESH INSTALL. i''ve found that once a windows installation becomes corrupt, you will spend all your time trying to continually fix it. Get rid of it and start again. No headache, no wasted time and your computer will run like new again. Assuming you backed up all your files externally.....lol.... Good luck, Kids.
If the root cause is a driver and you haven't identified it, you'll simply reinstall the problem. If the root cause is hardware, attempting to reinstall Windows is likely to make things worse and leave you with an unbootable machine. It's best to diagnose the root cause of the BSoD before reinstalling. A bluescreen crash will typically reboot back into Windows automatically once it's saved a memory dump. In the event the bluescreen occurs during the start-up process there's a section in the video with things you can try if Windows won't start. Finally, you can grab the dump file from the faulty device and run the analysis on another computer - it doesn't have to be the same one.
I see it as potentially useful when designing a sales funnel. Send them down a different email path depending on the behavior they take, opening the free PDF or not, etc.
I can see that. Not sure if I like it, but I can see the appeal on the selling side. Extending tracking pixels beyond email and websites.
shame that Steve abandoned the Admin Center project
Aye. It was looking very promising for a while.
I don’t care just tell me
Didn’t watch any videos, but was able to use Ubuntu to unlock my windows drive.
What would happen if I keep Windows 10 off the internet, so I can avoid all that, will it work?
If you keep it on a completely isolated network that is a viable option. It's usually not practical for most use cases, but there are scenarios where the impact of a computer failure is so great that the safest thing to do is not let it talk to anything else. They're usually pretty specific scenarios, but in principle if you keep your computer disconnected from everything else then you're pretty secure.
What about when each time it crashes, it shows a different stopcode error... & They're just too many to follow
Verbiage BS
I have a problem with nextcloud onlyoffice "ONLYOFFICE not reachable. Contact your Administrator". And it works correctly only on one client, on others I get this error. I can't find any solution for such an issue, can you help me with that?
I believe windows clashes with any antivirus because it offers to adhere to the anti malware tool. It's deliberately bullying. Grin snd bear it. 😢
Mine does it once every month or so, feels like it happens for no reason.
Hey thanks bro your are great you solved my big problem thank you so much broo
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Glad to hear it helped
Well would you look at that, an actual review about a thing that provides good info on the thing it's about. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad it was useful.
i just use XTC and don't have a care in the world.
So my Hp I have tried most thing but it says when I use CMD from the recovery section it looks like this ( X: windows/ system32): I’ll put in a code and an error comes up can not acccess hard drive it is locked. So how do I unlock it from this CMD . It also will not mount from the usb says same thing . I’m sure if I can get past this lock thing it will work to upload a new version of windows. I have tried even to put Linux on it and it won’t let me do that either. Please help thanks
Sounds like it is encrypted using BitLocker. If you have your recovery key, try using the manage-bde command to unlock it. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/manage-bde-unlock
What are your thoughts on 2fa browser extensions
Depends how it works. If it's storing a unique key securely on the device then it's a valid possession factor. It depends how securely the key is stored and how well it validates the identity of a target website before it passes through the authentication. I wouldn't be keen if it syncs with multiple devices as it partly undermines the proof of possession. If it's a password manger extension that includes 2FA then my thoughts are covered in this video about the way Bitwarden does it: ua-cam.com/video/646dlqdcbMk/v-deo.html
this is a great showcase of why developers and programmers are not marketers. everyone has their gifts. passbolts gift is how robust it was engineered.
Yup. Two very different skillsets.
@@ProTechShow indeed. btw, thanks for your videos bro! i have been having an absolute rut and mental block lately being paranoid over my personal cyber security and your videos on MFA weaknesses and this passbolt video really helped me ease the concerns i had :) i read that you do IT consulting in your bio. out of curiosity, how much would you charge for like a 15 minute zoom call? 😅
@@shuccle6161 Thanks! My “day job” is a senior position at an IT consultancy. I can't offer individual consulting engagements because it would create a conflict of interest if I were to provide similar services on a freelance basis as my primary employment.
@@ProTechShow ohh, that makes sense. what if it was free and just to help me out? haha. i honestly just wanted to chat for a bit to see if there was anything else i could learn for you. i work in IT, kinda, but mostly just helping people in my industry troubleshoot their tech, implement tech for them in their businesses, and stuff like that. but i was more so curious about cyber security stuff like email security, hygiene, and things like that. just for my own stuff. i wouldn't want to get you in trouble with your work tho so i would understand if you couldn't.
@@shuccle6161 afraid it's not something I plan to offer. I get a lot of messages asking for help with various things and if I accepted them all I'd need a small team to manage it. UA-cam is a hobby alongside my main job and I prefer to keep it that way, so it's easier just to say no to any individual assistance rather than try to pick who to help and who not to. It also helps keep a clear boundary from my main employment. Hope that makes sense. If I start saying "yes" to some then I'll be opening Pandora's box!
Passbolt backup and recovery, It is a nightmare, each user has to keep his private key. Not useful for family neither for an organization.
For organisations I recommend skipping the community edition and going straight to the business plan for the escrow feature that lets you recover end-users' keys for them. Expecting end-users to look after it themselves is asking for trouble. For a family the community version could work. It's a small enough group that you could walk them through the setup and save a copy of the key. As designated family tech person you would need to take ownership of the process to make sure it happens. It's not a tool I'd recommend to the average end-user without support.
This was extremely helpful!!! Thank you 🙏🏾 I downloaded the WinDbg and it gave me the code for my Nvidia driver… So now I know specifically what to change.
Glad it helped
Think you find HyperV won’t be gone. It’s run Azure and other services like Xbox. Simple. Hyperv Server is now the Azure Stack HCI. Otherwise Server Core is very much the same. However, Proxmox is going well.
Yeah, Hyper-V is going to be around for a long while yet
Save all the data. Reimage and copy the data back and save your time.
Sometimes that works but it's better to diagnose the problem first. If it's a software issue and you reinstall the same software the problem will come back. If it's a hardware issue and it occurs while you're reimaging you'll be left with an unbootable machine.
